so i’ve done a lot so far! feel like i’ve been going almost non-stop! today, i’m relaxing and working on photos and this blog. tomorrow, we are going to watch the olympic opening ceremonies somewhere … maybe outside at a park or at a pub. i went on a bus tour on tuesday. got to see stonehenge, bath, shakespeare’s house, and drove through the cotswolds. this was all in one day so it was a bit rushed, but definitely worth it! the weather has been absolutely beautiful! the best they’ve had this summer for sure. i still need to hit a couple of museums, but other than that i think i’ve covered most things that i wanted to do in the city. i have walked SO much here, and there are lots of random things i’ve seen that are not on the list. wish i could have made a trip to cornwall or devon, but maybe some other time.

covent gardens and portobello markets were really neat. both very lively and colorful. portobello market has lots of antiques on saturdays so that was cool to see. we ate some yummy marshmallows and falafel wraps that day. notting hill has some pretty areas and it was nice to walk around there. tried to take photos of the courts at wimbledon one day, but they were closed for olympic preparation. sat outside at a park in wimbledon with laura that afternoon … very relaxing. i was hoping to have some days here where i just got to lay around at a park … and i’ve had a couple so that’s been really nice. got to see the torch pass through east london and did a pub crawl that evening. that was a really fun day! went to some nice pubs where charles dickens used to hang out. even took an intermission from our pub crawl to make pancakes and bacon.

on sunday, laura and i went to the leather bottle (great restaurant with a beer garden in the back) for sunday roast. so delicious and such a good english experience! i did camden town and market one day. very grungy/cool area of london. street food, skateboarders, guys with mohawks, reggae music and graffiti. even went back a second time yesterday with josh and noah. we also went to abbey road and took lots of photos. really wanted to get that perfect photo, but it’s harder than it looks. however, i did get some good ones that i’m pretty happy with. we also went to an area called little venice. it’s a pretty area along the canal filled with houseboats.

i will be leaving london on the 31st to head to edinburgh, scotland! excited about that, but a little sad to leave london. i feel like this is my home in some way and i have enjoyed getting to see laura and joanna so much!!

  1. You’ve done so much during your time in London, and gotten a real feel for the life around you. Seeing the torch, posing at Shakespeare (my all time favorite) home, Stonehenge, Bath and especially the fun food & friends that make a place you’re traveling through, fell like home, makes life worth living. Loved the pictures in this post, even if the Yorkshire pudding puts me a little off.
Edinburgh is on the horizon, the Palace, the taxis and, perhaps a glimpse of Nessie bathing in the Loch await your discerning eye. As ever, travel safe & love, dad.

  2. You’re taking really great photos Nicole! Glad to know you have had a chance to slow down and really take in London etc. Have fun in Scotland!
